Mineral resources play an important supporting role in the process of regional economic development， forming several mineral resources economic zones with distinctive characters. Based on the update of national marine and land mineral resource map， the authors have divided the country into four Level-Ⅰ mineral resources economic zones of East， Central， West and Northeast， and 12 Level-Ⅱ mineral resources economic zones of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Shandong， Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai， Fujian-Guangdong-Hainan-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan， Shanxi-Henan， Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi-Anhui， Xinjiang， Inner Mongolia， Shaanxi-Gansu-Qinghai-Ningxia， Tibet， Sichuan-Chongqing， Yunnan-Guizhou-Guangxi， and Liaoning-Jilin-Heilongjiang. The basic characters of each mineral resources economic zone are briefly described， and the initial delineation of 82 large-scale mineral resources comprehensive bases is carried out.
